En s’imposant vendredi sur l’épreuve chronométrée du Tour de Luxembourg, et en prenant samedi la seconde place de la 5e et dernière étape Mattias Skjelmose a signé son premier succès sur une épreuve par étapes. A 26 ans, le Danois l’emporte au classement général final devant les deux Français Kévin Vauquelin (Arkéa Samsic) et Valentin Madouas (Groupama-FDJ) premier maillot jaune et victorieux de deux étapes.

La première victoire du jeune danois Skjelmose Jensen- qui aura seulement 22 ans le 26 septembre prochain – et la seconde victoire d’étape de Madouas – qui enchaine les succès – relèguent au second plan la course du second au classement final, Kévin Vauquelin, à cinq secondes du vainqueur de l’épreuve, car battu de seulement trois secondes dans le chrono la veille. La photo d’arrivée donne une bonne représentation de l’indécision du classement final de la course, puisque Vauquelin termine de nouveau très près dans le sprint à l’étape et aux bonifications; la photo permet aussi de voir le luxembourgeois Geniez, 4é à l’étape, et toujours très en vue dans sa course pour Madouas….
    De la même façon, relevons d’autres résultats plus ou moins « de l’ombre » sur d’autres courses, comme ceux du même Kévin Vauquelin dans ses derniers chronos, très proche de Kung au Tour de Poitou-Charentes ou 7é du dernier championnat d’Europe, dans un top 10 de haut niveau, ce qui constituent des performances de choix pour le jeune néo-pro français, d’autant plus que le cyclisme français pêche quelque peu dans la spécialité du contre-la-montre.
